How to Make a Prediction in DunkSim
A prediction in DunkSim is a simulation you have chosen to stand behind. This guide walks the whole path with the app’s own button labels: run, review, save, update before the cutoff, get scored, and see where it shows up.
1. Run a simulation
Open the Sim & Predict tab. The Current season pane lists upcoming games as “Away @ Home” cards with the date. Tap one.
That opens the setup screen, headed SET UP YOUR SIM. You can run it as-is, or adjust it first: sit a player out with the toggle on his row, set how many players get minutes on each team with Rotation depth, change the simulation count, or switch on Threshold analysis. When you are ready, tap Run simulation. Every run costs a token, and the button says so.
2. Review the result
The result screen shows the projected final, the projected to win tag, and the win probability bar. The results guide explains each field. Two habits before you commit:
- Check the win probability, not just the winner. A 51% call is a coin flip.
- If the result surprises you, tap Simulate again. It reopens the setup with your adjustments kept, so you can change one thing and rerun.
3. Save it as a prediction
Tap Save as prediction at the bottom of the result. A dialog headed Save as prediction asks for a visibility:
- Public: anyone can see it on your profile and in the feed.
- Followers only: only people who follow you.
- Pay-per-view (Premium): shown only to active creators; see the Creator program in the app for what that involves.
Tap Publish. The app confirms with “Prediction saved.” and opens the share sheet. You can close it; the prediction is already saved.
The option is only offered for upcoming games. On a historical replay the button is replaced by the note “Predictions are only available for upcoming games.”, and a cross-era matchup has no button at all.
4. Update it before the cutoff
Predictions lock shortly before tip-off. Until then you can change your mind:
- Swap in a newer simulation. Run the game again, for example after a late injury report, and tap Save as prediction. The app replaces the earlier one and confirms with “Updated your prediction for this game.” One prediction per game.
- Edit the details. On the prediction page, Edit prediction lets you set a Confidence (1–10) and notes, with an optional reason for the update.
After the cutoff the prediction is fixed. A simulation of that game shows “Predictions are only available for upcoming games.” in place of the button.
5. Scoring
Once the game is final, the prediction is scored automatically on two things: the winner, then the margin. Getting the winner right earns the base amount. Getting the winner right and landing within ten points of the real margin earns more; within five points, more again; and an exact final score earns the most. Each level earns both tokens and leaderboard points.
6. Where it shows up
- Home. The upcoming-games card shows “you called Team” next to any game you have predicted.
- Your predictions. The Sim & Predict tab’s History button lists every simulation; your predictions have their own page from the profile, with the result and the score once the game is played.
- Ranks. Leaderboard points from scored predictions feed the Points and Streaks tabs, and the Following toggle narrows the board to people you follow.
- Accuracy record. Your profile shows your Accuracy and Graded record, and a strong record over your recent predictions earns a title.

Frequently asked questions
Does saving a prediction cost anything?
No. The simulation behind it costs a token to run, as every simulation does. Saving the result as a prediction is free, and so is updating it.
Can I change my prediction after I save it?
Yes, until the cutoff shortly before tip-off. Run a new simulation for the same game and save it, and the app swaps it in as your prediction for that game. You can also edit your confidence and notes from the prediction page.
How many predictions can I make?
There is a daily limit that depends on your plan. The plan comparison in the app shows it as 'Predictions per day.'
What does the prediction get scored on?
The winner first, then how close the projected margin was to the real one. A correct winner earns the base amount; a correct winner within ten points earns more; within five points more again; and an exact final score earns the most.
